Seeing Shanghai at night from a river cruise is a must-do. The city is beautiful by day, but by night it is simply breathtaking. Also, seeing the city from the water gives you the best vantage point to appreciate the magnificent waterfront facade of the buildings which range from pre-1949 revolution gracious french architecture to post cultural revolution modern buildings that are as state of the art as you'll find anywhere on the globe. Also, Shanghai puts on a spectacular lightshow every night (let's hope they are using environmentally-friendly LEDs!)
